LOVE HOTELS
About

A field guide,
not a booking site.

Love Hotels Tokyo is an independent, English-language guide to the themed short-stay hotel scene in Shibuya and Ebisu — and eventually, the rest of Tokyo. We document hotels you can walk into without a reservation, explain how to use them, and try to frame a quietly misunderstood part of Japanese urban life for travelers who come here curious.

What this site is

An editorial guide. We write about individual hotels, the neighborhoods that contain them, the mechanics of a themed hotel stay, and the culture behind the phenomenon. The map, the hotel pages, and the guides are the whole product. Everything is free to read.

What this site is not

  • Not a booking engine. You cannot reserve a room through us. Love hotels in Japan take walk-ins; that's the point.
  • Not paid placements. No hotel has paid to be featured, rated higher, or covered in a guide.
  • Not affiliated with any hotel chain. Every hotel description is ours, based on our own visits or publicly available information.
  • Not explicit. We cover adult-themed hotels without showing adult content. The photos we use are of the spaces themselves.

How we make money

This site runs on revenue from adult-adjacent affiliates (dating apps, novelty retailers) that serve a similar audience. Those placements are clearly labeled and never integrated into editorial content. No hotel review is ever paid.

Who we are

A small independent team based in Tokyo. We write in English because the existing coverage of this topic, in English, is patchy and mostly anxious. We wanted something that reads like any other travel guide.
